This loch is about 15 minutes walk from the Forestry track and is close to Sletill as the Crow flies. It is a very small, shallow, circular loch which does have a boat but which is also very safe to fish from the bank. Another excellent beginners’ loch, it is relatively featureless although a small reedbed near the boat mooring is somewhere to pay attention. Fish can genuinely be taken from all over the loch.
Talaheel fish are small but numerous and due to the lack of depth in the loch fight extremely well. A ¾ pound fish is a good fish but fish over a pound can be taken. The majority of fish, however, are ‘breakfast’ trout – a common destination for many a Talaheel fish over the years! Talaheel receives good hatches of Mayfly, Claret Olives and Sedges but it would be a challenge to find a fly pattern which couldn’t catch a Talaheel fish. Standard loch patterns will suffice but both dry fly and nymph tactics can add to the fun.
