RSPB Forsinard
The Forsinard hotel is situated in the far north of Scotland right in the middle of the RSPB Peatland Nature Reserve. We therefore have the benefit of their numerous species on our door step, and with the rolling landscape of bogland and its thousands of pools, the place is home to a wide range of rare and unusual birds, animals, and plants. The peatlands are breeding grounds for amongst others black and red throated divers, greenshanks, golden plovers, merlins, and hen harriers. There is also a wealth of other wildlife, including millions of carnivorous sundew plants, and water beetles normally only found within the Arctic.
Scotrail
There is a railway station within a brief walk of the hotel. We have three trains north and three trains south daily, they come in from Inverness, Edinburgh, and Thurso. Why not leave the car at home and travel through our beautiful countryside by train, allowing you to enjoy the spectacular journey even more so? Please feel free to contact us if you require any further information or would like us to meet you at the station.
The Wild Trout Society
Preservation of our wild brown trout lochs is paramount if we want to be able to continue to fish for future generations. The wild trout society was set up with conservation and preservation in mind. Please take the time to look at their site and maybe even get involved in this worthwhile cause.
Caithness & Sutherland Trout Angling Group
Caithness and Sutherland Trout Angling Group is a partnership of local angling clubs, hotels, sporting estates, angling instructors, the tourist board, Highland Council, local enterprise, and Scottish Natural Heritage. Their aim is to promote the sustainable development of trout angling within Caithness and Sutherland. Their web site holds a wealth of information and is well worth a visit to help you plan your fishing holiday.
Walk In Scotland
Many people who have stayed at the hotel have been walking their way between Lands-End and John O'Groats. We would like to pass on our warmest congratulations to Joan and Jim Cave from Penrith, Cumbria for being our first guests to successfully complete the challenge. Well done! For those of you who are not quite ready for a challenge on that scale, there are plenty of slightly less arduous walks for expert and beginner alike on the Walking Wild website.
Ordnance Survey
For those of you interested in local history, walking, or exploration, the Ordnance Survey get a map website provides an incredible free resource. From this website you can view this or any other area at a small scale and see the many ancient points of interest on our landscape.
