Loch Leir

Leir is a small loch situated very close to the forestry track. Basically circular in shape it has a small inlet in the SW corner. A boat is available although bank fishing can be just as productive and safe in much of the loch (take care on the south bank). Fish can be caught all over this loch but the larger fish all appear to lie either in the inlet or near the reedbeds on the south shore.

Leir fishing has improved markedly over the last few years and fish now average around 10oz with fish of up to 1lb being seen on most visits. All other things being equal a catch of 20-25 fish during your day can be expected with some anglers catching over 50! Leir gets prolific mayfly hatches when dry/emerger patterns work well. At other times the Kate McLaren fished on the bob is an excellent Leir pattern but there are not many patterns which will be refused here.
